To me, painting is a form of meditation – a way to let go, connect to something real, and be present. Each piece teaches me to see anew the places that have become so familiar, to sensitively observe the patterns of shape, color, and light effects. In turn, different painting materials (watercolor, oil, tempera, pastel) generate endless possibilities for visual expression. I hope this selection of paintings and drawings will inspire you to pay attention to the beauty of simple things in your own life.
Light and shadow in watercolor
Watercolor taught me about timing, letting water do its work, and trusting the process. Its directness, transparency, luminosity, colors bleeding into each other, and calligraphic mark-making make me go back to it time and again.
Landscape impressions in oil
In contrast with the fleeting nature of watercolor, oil reminds me of the materiality: the traces of brushstrokes, scratching, scraping, pushing and “sculpting” with paint. It trains the patience to see a picture emerge out of the fog and restraint to stop just before adding another detail.
